	DESCRIPTION:	One of New York's best known vegetarian restaurants featuring a diverse menu with an emphasis on local and organic ingredients.

	CUISINE:	Diverse menu with eclectic seasonal cuisine made with local and organic ingredients. Everything is vegan except their soycheese has calcium caseinate.

	SERVICE:	Full Service, Take-out, Delivery and Catering.

	SPECIALTIES:	Soups, Sesame Crusted Seitan over Soba Noodles with Wilted Asian Greens and Wasabi, Seitan Al Mojo De Ajo, Vegan pies and cakes, "As You Like It" Stir-Fry.

	FEATURES:	Favorite spot for holistic practioners, yoga teachers, etc. Great networking happens amongst the customers and practioners. Where the "shakers and movers" eat !

	NON-SMOKING:	Our restaurant is completely non-smoking.

They offered the following special menus: OCTOBER 8th and 9th: Soup: Roasted Butternut Squash with caramelized apples $7 Appetizer: Horseradish Grilled Trumpet Royale Mushrooms with celeriac puree and sautéed seabeans and leeks $15 Entree: Walnut Crusted Seitan with sautéed spinach, roasted baby potatoes and a roasted portabello sauce $23 Dessert: Sweet Potato Pie with cinnamon ice cream $12 OCTOBER 17th and 18th: Soup: Tomato Basil with Almond Cream Appetizer: House Made Gnocchi with wild mushroom cashew cream and chives Entree: Quinoa Crusted Tempeh with ginger-cinnamon roasted sweet potatoes, haricots verts, caramelized onions and a chipotle cranberry sauce 21 Dessert: Baklava with cinnamon ice cream.

"Candle Cafe is my favorite vegan restaurant in NYC, well, next to their sister restaurant Candle 79. Candle Cafe is a little more casual. They are vegan except for the few dishes that have soy cheese where they do note that they contain casein.
The Tuscan Lasagne, Porcini Crusted Seitan and the Cajun Seitan sandwich are my favorites. Their signature dish, Paradise Casserole (sweet potato, black beans and millet) is also an excellent choice.
They have a wonderful assortment of fresh juices too. But their organic wine list is great too. Always a difficult decision on which to go for. I have brought many a non veg friend here and they all love the food. As they say at Candle - Go to Health."
