"The small town of Alpine Texas is the hub of the Big Bend region. Located in the beautiful desert mountains of West Texas, Alpine is a place to escape the summer heat for Texas residents and a place to escape the extreme cold of winter for the folks from the Midwest. This "cow town" now has a cafe that offers a vegan option daily! Connie and crew were so impressed with the book "The China Study" that they have started giving their customers a vegan choice every night. Some of her long time regulars have already started making the switch. The food is great (obviously prepared with love) and dessert is now a whole new food group. The place is very relaxed and offers courtyard dining, frequently with live music. If you are traveling along I-10 in West Texas and have the time for a detour, I highly recommend a visit to Alpine and Connie's 6th Street Bakery/Cafe. You may even decide to pack a loaf of bread for a visit to Big Bend National Park. But be warned, we came for a visit and are now full-time residents.
